TCM Treatment Methods

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete healthcare system with over two thousand years of history, based on the observation of the human body, nature, and their connection.

TCM views the body as an interconnected whole, where physical, emotional, and environmental factors influence overall balance. Its principles include Qi, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and the meridian system, which guide diagnosis and treatment.

Through individual pattern diagnosis, including observation, questioning, and pulse assessment, each patient receives a personalised treatment plan that may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui Na, moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha, and dietary therapy.

Acupuncture

Fine, sterile needles are inserted into specific points along the meridian system to support balance and wellbeing.

Acupuncture may help regulate the nervous system, circulation, and the body's natural processes, and is commonly used for pain and stress, but can be used to stimulate any bodily function in need.

Tui Na

Tui Na is a therapeutic massage using manual techniques along meridians and acupuncture points to support the musculoskeletal system, circulation, and the body's natural balance.

Combining pressure, friction, rotation, and joint mobilisation, it is commonly used for muscle tension, joint discomfort, neck and lower back pain, and functional recovery — alone or alongside acupuncture.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy (Ba Guan) uses suction cups to stimulate circulation, release muscle tension, and support the flow of Qi and blood.

It is commonly used to relieve muscle pain, stiffness, chronic tension, and inflammation, and to support recovery and overall wellbeing.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha uses a smooth-edged tool to gently scrape the skin, improving circulation, releasing muscle tension, and promoting the flow of Qi and blood.

It is commonly used for muscle pain, neck stiffness, headaches, and inflammation. Temporary redness afterwards is normal and expected.

Herbal Medicine

A cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese herbal medicine uses carefully selected formulas tailored to each patient's pattern of imbalance rather than isolated symptoms.

At Meraki, prescriptions are available as easy-to-dissolve granules, raw herbs, or capsules, following a comprehensive diagnosis.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion uses the gentle heat of burning mugwort (moxa) to stimulate acupuncture points, improve circulation, and support the flow of Qi.

It is commonly used for chronic pain, fatigue, cold conditions, digestive issues, and immune support — on its own or alongside acupuncture and other treatments.

Dietetics

Chinese dietetics uses food as a therapeutic tool to restore balance and support overall health.

Recommendations are tailored to each individual's pattern of imbalance, with personalised guidance on foods, cooking methods, and eating habits to complement treatment and promote lasting wellbeing.
